Career Opportunity: Structural Steel Detailer
Mc Menamin Engineering Ltd is a family-owned businesses with over 35 years’ experience in Structural Steel Fabrication, based in the outskirts of Killygordon, Co Donegal, who are currently seeking to recruit a Structural Steel Detailer with project management experience.
The purpose of this position is to prepare detailed plans, drawings and other documents for the manufacture and erection of steel members (columns, beams, braces, trusses, stairs, handrails, joists, metal decking, etc.) used in construction.
The main tasks associated with the position however are not limited to:
- Produces detailed drawings for steel fabricators (shop drawings) and steel erectors (erection drawings)
- Prepares detailed plans, drawings and other documents for the manufacture and erection of steel members (columns, beams, braces, trusses, stairs, handrails, joists, metal decking
- Detail structural and plate steel, and miscellaneous metals
- Work closely with architects, engineers, general contractors and steel fabricators
- Managing employee schedules to ensure that projects are delivered to meet customers timeframes
Responsibilities
- Comply with the requirements of the design drawings and with all industry standards and protocols
- Problem solve
- Maintain an organized drawing and job file system keeping track of drawings for approval, approved, and in production
- Communicate with all relevant people – architects/shop floor/steel erector
- Responsible for any drawing requirements for temporary works and site changes
- Operate to the Drawing Office standards for all work and ensure that the deliverable deadlines are achieved
- Work closely with the clients Production team to ensure that the drawings produced are compatible
- In all interactions with customers our culture of quality, professionalism, fairness, can do attitude and a state of being easy to do business with should be held foremost in our client’s minds
- Perform structural and miscellaneous steel detail checking to ensure the drawings conform to the projection specifications, engineering requirements, standards, and operational specific specifications
- Understand and evaluate employee limitations and work with them to reach a solution.

The ideal candidate should have the following:
- A third level qualification in Civil or Structural Engineering
- Competent steel detailer, with a minimum of 3 years working experience with Tekla Structures is an advantage
- Project management experience of managing projects from inception through all stages to completion
- A good communicator with all the relevant personal (architects, engineers, contractors, fabricators), to ensure delivery timescales are met
- Full Drivers licence
